Since 2016, neighbors around Mifflin Square Park have been working collaboratively to improve the quality of life for people living in the neighborhood near the park and the South 7th Street Commercial Corridor. Led by SEAMAAC, a community organization in South Philadelphia founded in 1984 by refugees, the project builds community power and prosperity by improving and implementing the physical and operational changes for Mifflin Square Park. The project invites the communities adjacent to this stretch of Philadelphia, which includes Cambodian, Vietnamese, Karen, and Latinx refugees and immigrants. Outcomes include renovations to the park, a Vendor Village that welcomes the local community, and a new food truck incubator, rotating local chefs to provide opportunities to gain skill, knowledge, and experience in the food business field and to become a successful business owner.
