The Cambodia Town Mural Project is a collection of eight public art murals in Cambodia Town in Long Beach, CA. Murals are located along Anaheim Street, and were created in partnership with Cambodia Town Inc., United Cambodian Community (UCC), Homeland Cultural Center (HCC), the offices of councilmembers Daryl Supernaw (4th District), Dee Andrews (6th District) and Midtown Business Improvement District. A panel of community members served on the selection committee to determine which artist and murals would be painted along Anaheim St. Key criteria considered during the selection process was ensuring artists are from and/or connected to Cambodia Town, represent the diversity of cultures in our community, reflected the stories from our immigrant communities, and embodied the vibrant flavors of the Cambodia Town neighborhood. Additionally to the selected artists, United Cambodian Community (UCC) coordinated a community mural in which community members designed and painted the mural on UCC’s building. Community members identified the mural theme and images to be incorporated into the community mural. UCC staff drafted mural designs for the community to select the final mural design. Once the design was selected, community members painted the image onto the building.
